hacked air box worries

i was thinking about hacking my airbox, but then i got to thinking. could water get sucked in the huge gapping hole on the side of the airbox that is being cut in? could this make your car run lean if it gets so much extra air? what happens when your car runs too lean? if water does get sucked in the hole, will the filter (k&n panel) stop it from getting into the engine?

dude i have the injen and ive never had a problem with it in this car or the last one. youll be fine. The only way that i can think of that water will get into the motor that will eventually mess it up, is if you put the thing under water and being that its like a vacume, youll suck the water in there. so dont worry about it.

I cut mine like the pic above and haven't had a problem. You'll have a problem with water getting sucked in if you have a true CAI (where you cut a hole into the fender).
