Has anyone successfully tinted their car themselves?

This might be a stupid question but i was just wondering if any of you have successfully tinted your own windows. i know i have see a lot of terrible jobs done by people doin it themselves but its gota be possible to do it and have it look great. would it be possible for me to do it myself if i did it carefully and took my time? im just tryin to save myself 200 and some odd dollars so i figured i would ask. thanks guys.

Never tried it.
I would think it would be better to just let someone who is used to doing it, do it. I mean, supposedly, the Max is pretty hard to get to look good.

Hello there!

I have been asking myself the same question, and been doing alot of research. after spending alot of time reading pages and pages of crap i found this site tintdude i wouldn't recomend to ask n their forums b/c all of them seem to be A**holes about doing it yourself. all they say is take it to a pro. but at least that site will you give a pretty good idea of what you need and how hard it will be. i think that the front and back windows wont be that hard, but the rear window must be a pain. but im going to try it this weekend and post some pics of how i did so wish me luck

good luck and yea, the back window can be a pain cause you have to do it in 3 pieces.

Yeah the car is hard to do. I took it to a shop and watched them do it and they have to some how shrink the film for the back window with a heat gun then mold it so u only have one piece. Some other places make the rear window with 3-4 pieces of film and it looks like ****. Make sure if u do it ur self leave ur car in the sun for about 3 days and dont roll ur windows open. And just out of curiosity did anybody tint their sunroof cause mine was crystal clear but now i have 5% and it helps so much with the heat inside. Just my 2 cents.

The only problem with tinting your sunroof, from what I hear from the pros, is that you run a much greater risk of cracking your sunroof because it traps that heat right there on the glass. Just what I've heard from the pros, never dealt with it personally.

I've heard of this as well. I was debating on whether to tint the sunroof or not, but after reading some threads around the web, I decided not to. But there's plenty of people who've done it and they've had no prob's so I dunno
