strange noise, any thoughts?

97 MAx, 61k miles now makes a kind of "groaning" grinding noise.
Sounds real bad, but doesn't seem to affect performance.
It comes from the front right (passenger) and is speed related
- it sounds faster the faster I go. Sometimes it sounds really bad, others it's hardly there (but never gone completely).
I took it to a local garage and they checked the brakes and he had it up on the lift, saw some loose plastic in the wheel well with a rub mark and put it tight with a zip-tie - but after it occured to me that coudn't be it as the noise happens in a straight line, not just at full lock. And it still makes the noise...
So what do you think it is?
Wheel bearing(s)?
Brake pad? (I had new pads/rotors put in a few thousand back, but the noise only started a little while ago.)
Thanks in advance...

Does it get worse when you turn one way and less when you turn the other? If so it's probly your hub bearing on the passenger side. They're notorious for going out

nahh, doesn't seem to be worse straight or turning in either direction.
Can't figure out why its worse somtimes than others.
I thought humidity at first, but that doesn't seem the cause.
What's a hub bearing cost to repalce?
How hard is it to do yourself?
