Recently had my car checked out at 115114 miles, mechanic said that shocks were weak and front strut berings were bad along with the control arm. So, this is going to set me back some $$$. Was wondering on lowering the car. In need recommendations on which springs are the best. Don't want a suicide drop, but a nice 1.5 - 1.7 " would be ok.

.....seems to be a good choice and very comfortable.
If you want something that handles a little better, go with the Eibach springs with either AGX or Illuminas.
