Antenna question

I think this pertains more to those of us in the northern US but does anyone else have problems with their antenna come winter time sticking upon retraction? I've tried everything to keep it clean and always apply some sort of lubricant to try to keep this from happening but nothing seems to work, in the summer its fine though.

Also, the tip of mine is slightly bent keeping it from fully going down, can these be replaced at ease?

you can get the antenna off ebay for $10 i think, as for the freezing weather, yeah, you need to get some lithium grease and lube the antenna, thats what ive heard works, my theory is that you can put a few drops of antifreeze so that it wont freeze in the antenna housing, try the white lithium grease first though

You can also pick up a mast at your local PepBoys or equivalent for 14.99...

Easy to replace, scroll to the bottom of this page:

Just use some type of lubricant (WD-40 is not a lubricant) to keep the mast clean/slippery through the winter months... avoid using the radio (thus the antenna) on the coldest day of the year.. I know its a lame fix -but when we get iced out here, there is no way the antenna is going up and down without either burning out the motor or snapping the plasic gear guide.

Yep, mines doing it alot lately since it's winter now here. The other day it didn't want to go up at all after a heavy frost, so had to drive around with no music or radio until it defrosted

On the US models, the antenna only goes up/down whent he radio is used... you can use the CD/Cassette player anytime - and the antenna stays retracted... so thats what I do through most of winter.

I'm using an aftermarket Sony CD player which doesn't seem to work like that Would be nice if it did though!

Ahh I see... that kinda sorta sucks.... I know one org member installed a cut-off switch for their antenna - so they just disable the power to it every winter - so it doesn't turn on accidentally... you could maybe do something like that... at least you can use the CD and/or cassette (if you have one)... easiest spot would be the trunk (but that would be inconvenient)...

Yeah, that wouldn't be overly hard to do actually, could put the switch in the dash somewhere. What would be even nicer is if there was a way to control the height of the aerial with a button
