Rear seat covers for dog transport?

Towels just aren't cutting it anymore, they get moved around too much and I end up with muddy paws on a tan back seat. Anyone got any kind of seat cover in the back? Before anyone brings it up, yes the safest way to transport a dog is in a crate, but my dog is freaking huge. I had to borrow my roommate's SUV to bring his crate home from where I got him.

i work at a car rental place and dog hair drives me crazy cuz it's so hard to vacuum out!

how bout using a sheet? i bet you could tuck it into the tops and sides of the seats so it wouldn't move around too much. you could buy a big cheap one at walmart or some place like that.

just an idea, goodluck.

you could also shave your dog bald...

That's why we don't have any carpet in the house. He doesn't shed much, it's more of a dirt problem from when he gets back in the car from dog parks or something like that. I was thinking about a sheet, I was just hoping there was something easier to remove when I want to use the back seat to haul people.

We use a rug, like you would put in the entry way to a house, down on the seating surface. It's fairly flexible and has the material on the bottom that's like rubber so it stays in place real well. It's about the same length as the back seat too. We then use a sheet over the back just to keep the back somewhat protected.

I like that rug idea... something i can just take off the seat and throw in the trunk at a moment's notice. Any more ideas? This is good stuff.

Maybe just a big blanket of some kind. That ought to work good. Just kind of tuck it in on the sides and you should be set.

I want a dog.

What breed dog? Why can't you fit him/her in the trunk? Is the opening just too narrow?

there are mats made specifically for covering rear seats from dogs. they're usually made of that ballistic nylon stuff- pretty bomber stuff. they hang off the front seat headrests, and cover the rear seat to the top.
i first saw them in an Orvis catalog i think. i've also seen similar things at my neighborhood Petsmart.
When i know i won't be carrying people, i just take the rear seat out and leave it in the garage for dog transport.
