Breaking problems

Hey fellas!

I got new rotors and break pads all around, got them all from the dealership about a month ago...

here is the problem:
when i try to back out of the garage i have to hold the breaks a little (for the car not to go too fast) and i hear this loud squeaking noise from the front breaks, only happens when i go in reverse, when i go straight and hit the breaks i don't hear anything...

what can it be?

thanks
Serge

If you drive an automatic or your on a steep drivway, of course your gonna have to hold the brakes.

His problem is that the brakes squeak in reverse, not that he has to hold them. I don't have any idea though.

And the squeaking in reverse is normal, if you dont do alot of backing up. Its because the pads wear a certain way when you go forward, and when you reverse, you are going against the wear.

Think of it as a old record. If you play the record forward, everything sounds good. But when you use your hand, and draw the record backwards it make that scratchy noise.

are they semi-metallic pads? I had TONS of problems with noise with semi-metallics, switched to organic pads and problem solved.

Thanks everyone!
my english sucks at things that I don't usually talk about... that's why it confused 96maxdaddy heh

although it does make sence that it supose to be squeaking in reverse, but we have 3 other cars in our family and none of them does that ... (Honda's) hahaha and before i replaced the rotors and pads it didn't squeak like that in reverse

also i am not sure what kind of pads they are... i just got them from the dealership OEM

Thanks again!
Serge

Your best bet would be to take the caliper off the rotor and do a thorough inspection.

BUT

If you want to save some time it sounds like it might be a loose, or shifted brake pad shim. Sometimes they can come loose and don't dampen sound properly. Even worse! sometimes they can shift and actually go onto the hub where they are slowly filled down while you're driving. So you can take a peak at the brakes thru the rims with a flash light and if u see a difference over the brake pad area ( u can see smooth metal then a rough surface ) then best bet would be brake shims. If they are chewed up they can be replaced seperately with a kit. If they are loose then can be greased and re-apllied.

Let me know how it goes,
Mike
