Beep when lights left on, gone?

Hello All,

I have a question, does anyones Maxima beep when the lights are left on? My brothers 95 Max SE (auto) , beeps when the lights are left on, but my 96 SE (5 Speed) doesnt beep. Did the just have this beep on the 95s, or is there something I would need to change/fix to get the beep again, ofcouse I wouldnt have to worry as much cause I could pop the clutch if my lights every drainned my battery, but naturally it would be better to avoid having to do this all together.

thanks all.

check under the panel above your knees. there should be 2 screws holding it up. remove those 2 screws and see if the buzzer is plugged in. that's what makes the beeping noise when you forget to do something like turn off your headlights or remove your key.

we should try to make the beep, turn into some kind of song. like cell phone song.

leave the light on, and mettalica mid version of their songs starts playing.

I checked under my brothers 95, and heard the beeping but couldnt tell where it was comming from,

does anyone have a pic or a definate way I can locate the buzzer, I hope my didnt die, but now that I think about it I've never heard it since I've gotten the car (6 months ago), I check all my fuses and there fine and in good shape.

Maybe I need a new buzzer?

If you remove the plastic sheild below the steering wheel, the buzzer will be connected to it with a wire connected, if it is connected. It's a little tanish colored box. All you have to do to remove it is unscrew the 3(?) screws holding.

I looked into changing the beep, and there are a few snags:
1. The relay that is connected times in and out, causing the momentary beep. If you add something else (say a song), you will get about .9 seconds of the song before it will start over. This will continually happen.

2. See number one.

I thought it would be cool to have a different beep, and any beep can be retrofitted. Just find the chime you want at a salvage yard (you could maybe even get one from Mercedes or BMW parts). It's twelve volts, momentary on and off.
