Your 99 is most likely equipped with California emissions. Part of the California emissions system are swish valves located in your intake manifold. The actuator and hardware from the swish valves blocks the view and access to the KS. The knock sensor is in the same place as every other 95-99 Maxima, only it's very hard to see and access on your California emission equipped car. You will probably have to remove the swish valve actuator to get access to your KS.

My knock sensor is placed on the timing chain cover not below the intake manifold

does that make a difference?

besides my engine makes the rattling sound (cam shaft tensioners problem), when it's placed on the timing cover, wouldn't that affect it's operation? because it's job to sense knocking, and the engine rattles from that location

isn't it better for it to be placed away from that location? away like on the cylinder block and below the intake manifold?

thank
