help. security restart problem

I disconnected the negative terminal from my daughters 99 Maxima and upon reconnecting, the security system will not allow restart. I locked the doors for 30 seconds, as stated in the manual, and reopened the doors but the security light continues to blink and the car will not start. After several tries at the recommended 30 second door lock etc. I give up. any help here?

Are you using the remote to Arm and Disarm the car alarm? (Just making sure)

I had this problem. After a few things, I tried the following:

1. Lock all doors
2. Try to get something out of the key fob
3. If after step 2 still no luck, sit inside the car and power lock all doors. Wait a minute or two. Unlock driver door manually, then walk around to the passenger door--unlock from the outside with the key.
4. Try to start the car.
5. If this does not work, again, lock all doors and disconnect negative cable for at least 12 hours. This should reset the system. After 12 hours, unlock only the passenger door with the key, then try to start the car. This worked for me, but only after (yes, I am a man of faith) I said a short prayer. Hey, it worked.

I'm really surprised there isn't any info. about resetting the immobilizer system in the 99 owners manual. There should be some sort of procedure to follow if you have the key/key fob...Just simple scenarios like battery replacement etc. where the power is disconnected should not reset/lock up the immobilizer system...

For all the 99 owners - there is nothing in your owners manual about this?

On a '99 Max....

Don't know if it will work for other cars, really didn't expect iit to, but step 3 worked for me! Or maybe it was the last part of step 5, the prayer part!

That's nice and all, but this thread is 5 years old.

Yeah, I know.

I searched and this was the only reference I found to "reset" the system.

Just because it's old doesn't mean it's no good!
