I've seen the instructions for this conversion (changing the colour of the LEDs from green to blue etc...) but I was wondering if anyone with a 97+ Maxima has done this?

I've heard its only doable for a the early pre 97 4th gen Max.

The door control switchs?

I did my front doors already... the rears cannot be done because the led is surface mounted... <see below... LED is just under the "LED2" print>

Oh that sucks!

So you just left the rears with the regular green light huh?

I wonder if there is some way to tint them.

The little square ones right? They look like the same leds that are on nokia phones. I have the blue leds in my nokia phone, and I wonder if they could replace them? If they are the same exact size, then you can just get them off of EBay, or at a local cellphone accessory store. What do you guys think, no?

Are you going to use the same leds as the ones in the door switches? I was going to do this earlier but I didn't know if I could just replace the 194 wedge bulbs with the same kind of leds, or could I?

Nope, you can't just replace the 194 wedges with the same kind of leds. It has to be custom work.

I did the security light earlier and it seems to be very bright blue like others have stated. I wish my gauges could look like this too. I also realized that the led for my security light is very bright, but very small in viewing angle degrees, I think like 30. I now know that I guess I need the 95-96 rear door switches to convert them, but does anyone know exactly what I need to convert the gauges?

I'm looking into this:

I'm gonna try and mess with them and see if i can replace the LEDs on the back like I did with my nokia as well.

It's not that difficult, but the hardest thing will be to get he voltages right, and the polarity of the LEDs

Although I haven't seen it yet, but extracting the existing LED might be hard as well. I'll keep you guys posted.

Changing surface mount LEDs can be done. My friend did it to change the color of his CD player just today. There are some specialized tools that make it pretty easy to do. You can replace bulbs with LEDs as well, but they need the appropriate resistor network to function. Look it up in a electronics book...its too long for my lazy a$$ to type out here.

yeah well...

I just bought a set of control switches off a 98 Maxima on Ebay today.

So once it arrives, I'll fool around with it and hopefully get it to work.

I'll keep you all posted.

nope

I think Metallic97GXE has done that though

I might put in some eurolites in my blinkers and tails once I clear them out.

I've got a lot of work to do this summer.

Well..summer for me starts in a month anyways

Does anyone know the exact resistor to use to hook up a 3.6 (or is it 3.7?) blue LED to the 12V supply? I'm thinking its the same resistor used for my security light, but I don't want to have to open that thing back up to reassmble it later. So, does anyone know? I'm planning on replacing some 194 bulbs with LED's.

Just be aware that the eurolite LEDs for the 1157 and 1156 sockets are not as bright as the originals. They don't fill the taillights as thoroughly. If you really want bright ones, get LEDTronics bulbs (www.ledtronics.com). But they are much more expensive (like $20 per bulb).

LEDs for the rear window switches on a '97

I'm curious to know if the switches in a 95-96 model will work in a '97. If so, then that's the way to go. I already replaced all of my LEDs in the door switches, and it wasn't very difficult. Sounds like the flush mounted LEDs would be a major hassle.
