check engine light-can it just be cleared?

Simple question-can i turn off the check engine light by doing some trick?
ex.. disconnect bat, pump brake three times.

what works for the maxima.

At the ecu, turn the screw clockwise until it stops, dont force it any further than that. 2sec ... then turn it back counter. Do it again forward and back and it should go away.
