Goop dripping on front driver side rim

I just washed the car yesterday and the rim was clean even before I washed it. But today, when I got home after a bit spirited driving I noticed some brown/black goopy tar kind of liquid all over the inside of my front driver side rim only... I tried to peek deeper in and it looks like there's goop on my axle as well, near the hub... any idea what it is and where it is coming from?

I found this link that describes almost exactly what I have... however are there any other options other than it being the cv boot being ripped and the oil leaking out of the cv joint?

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=232469

If I get axles from www.raxles.com - does that unit also replace the cv boot/cv joint?

Sounds like CV's. Get under there and feel around for the rip. Raxles axles would fix this, there are cheaper places (ie autozone) but raxles would probably be the best (aside from brand new...which would be unnecessary) if you can afford them.

You think I might be able to get away with just replacing the cv boot if it in fact is ripped?

Not a good Idea unless you know it just got ripped and you do it right away. Also you'd save like $40 over buying a remanufactured one.

You'd save 40 bucks by just replacing the boot instead of replacing the entire axle (from raxles.com)... i.e. its worth spending the extra 40 bucks to get a new axle instead of chancing it by just replacing the boot... especially since you don't know how long the boot has been torn... (probably not TOO long, since you still have grease spilling from it, but you can never tell).

actually it's more like save $120 over a raxles one. It's $150 (I think) for raxles, $70 for autozone, or $30 for a boot.
