#5 cylinder f'd up

i got a pretty bad problem, i'm tempted to get rid of the car but just can't do it. my #5 cylinder isn't firing at all. not the spark plug, not the coil...wtf. injector? crank position sensor? i'm getting extremely frustrated with this car. i don't mean to rip on imports, but whoever came up with this engine is a f'ing idiot. sorry i couldn't help myself. the spark plug was covered in black stuff (oil?, residue? whatever) the rest of the spark plugs are fine. i'm using desco(i think thats it) platinum plugs gapped at .44 just put in today. i put a new coil on the cylinder. and i'm extremely close to getting out the baseball bat. please someone who knows about these cars help me out. oh i think my knock sensors bad too. it ran like crap before, then today i tapped the knock sensor with a hammer lightly and now every once in a while(quite a bit) it bogs down when i hit the gas and stays like that for 2-10 seconds before "kicking back in". that and i probably could've bought another engine from the junk yard with all the $$ i've got invested in a broke as$ car. help PLEASE! btw how do i get at eh back 3 injectors, please tell me the intake manifold doesn't have to come off, i wanted to check that next

Woah slow down, its 3am, and the org just got back from the dead. Wait a couple hrs and youll get some more responses.

My advice, try having a compression test done on all the cyl and see whats going on. Start there and by then you'll have some more replies.

Although I don't know if it'll solve your problems or not but switch your plugs to NGKs. Only run NGK plugs in the Maxima to insure proper operation.

its got compression, i started it up without a plug in the cylinder and its got enough compression to make popping sounds loud as hel. And i changed the plugs to try and get rid of the problem, it just didn't work. sorry about sounding impatient, i'm at the end of my rope with this car. the one plug being covered in crap and not the others has got me really worried its something internal. I'm also sure thats the only cylinder with a problem if that helps

Do you have any P codes set? Also you may have a wiring issue from the ECM to the coil pack. Or the ECM may have a problem with firing that cylinder. Lastly you can always try swapping parts from one cylinder to another. The Fuel Injector and the Coil Pack. If you don't know what you're doing with the fuel system, then don't try to swap the injector.

If the compression is good and a new injector/coil don't fix it, then some diagnostics need to be performed on the wiring to see what is going on.
