Tired of replacing cracked fog lamps

As you all know it can be costly replacing those fog lamps for our vehicles, especially if it seems like you are doing this every year. I was wondering since I just bought a replacement fog lamp for my 97se, if I could possibly have my mechanic drill a tiny hole in the lamp so that the gases from the high wattage h3 bulb I will be using can escape, therefore not causing the glass to crack from the intense heat. I was thinking of the hole being drilled somewhere in the back of the lamp in order to avoid water getting in and cracking the lamp as well. Let me know if you think this would work or not.

I am not sure if that will work or not, but have you tried using Stoneguard protection on the front of the lense? I think the website is stoneguard.com. This might help it from cracking.

Hope it helps.

I don't think it would be smart to drill a hole in the glass, because then you have to worry about moisture getting inside the foglamp. Moisture & heat will cause cracking. I have had the same problem with cracked foglamp lenses & My issue seems to have always been a bad seal somewhere around the lens which allowed moisture to enter the housing causing the lens to crack once they became hot. Do not drill a hole in the glass lenses, you will only speed up the cracking process.

Here try this site.

I bought a set of light covers for my '96 and they work good. The covers are thick clear plastic that applies easily. Another good thing is that they sell a specific '97~'99 fog light kit. I had to cut my fog light covers out of a regular sheet of their material to fit on my car.

Their 12"x12" (bulk) headlight film package is only $15 plus $7 shipping and it's 40 mil (thick).
