Well, this weekend my 99 maxima was defiled. While in Panama City, FL, someone stole the passenger-side mirror, taking out the 3 or so screws holding it in, and neatly cutting the control wires with a wire cutter. So, if you see anyone roaming around with an extra passenger-side mirror, icelandic pearl in color and still trailing the control wires, you know where they got it

Insurance is covering the ~$250 for the replacement and painting it, and my insurance agent hooked me up... said he considered me driving without a passenger mirror a road hazard, so under my policy he'd replace it without a deductable. First time I've ever used the words "cool" and "insurance" in the same sentence.

If you see abovementioned mirror and the vandals who took it, please feel free to hit them over the head with it for me

What I'm wondering is how the hell did they get it off? I thought about painting my mirrors a while back, but those screws are a pain in the *** to get to. I was in a garage with tools, and I couldn't find a screwdriver to take the screws out. I guess they just happened to be carrying the perfect screwdriver with them.

Well, the only reason I can figure for taking that mirror is that they must have had a maxima missing a passenger side mirror. They're screwed if they stole it for a white 97-98, though, because in 99 the white (Icelandic Pearl) was a totally different shade (I've parked by white maximas and it makes my car look like it's dirty or something).

On the plus side, it looks like a surgeon removed that thing... no scratches, dents, etc... wires clipped off cleanly with cutters.

Some people will steal anything.

 

maybe its the new mod where they put rear view mirrors on the drivers door so the passengers in the back can see.
