Best Dual Exhaust for 4th Gen

What is the best cat-back dual exhaust system out there? Is Flowmaster's any good? Or should I just try to find a shop that knows what they're doing and get 2.5" mandrel bent piping and a decent muffler? I don't really know much about duals on 4th gen Maximas, so maybe someone can enlighten me or throw me some links. Thanks.

The *only* dual cat-back for 97-99 I know of is the one from www.custommaxima.com - finding a regular cat-back is hard enough.

Find a good exhaust shop and get them to fabricate something. It will be less than $700 for materials, that much I can guarantee you.

Yeah, I've been thinking about just finding a good exhaust shop and telling them what I want.

Anyone out there with the CM dual kit? I bet it's sh!tty and overpriced....

Get a Flowmaster but please dont buy that custom maxima over priced piece of crap. Get a muffler shop to do it, I had mine done for $200... catback 2.5"

Ant,

was this for looks, sound, or power. It doesn't seem that you caould gain any power from dual exhaust when it is all still funnelled through one pipe, but I was curious if you did notice in power gains. Was it enough to warrant the price? I personally think it looks really good, but if there is no power gain, I might skip it until later. Just curious.

Looks and sound. No catback gives gains that you can honestly feel... and if you do then its probably just in your head or the sound. Does it warrant the price? For me it did because my stock muffler was rusted through and my B pipe was starting to go so I was going to get a catback anyway. Please dont spend your money on the Custom Maxima one, its wayyyy too much money to warrant it. Your better off just getting headers.

Go to a muffler shop and let them do it. Its very easy and for me it was cheap. I have no resonator and a Y pipe so its loud as hell. At idle it has a sick burble, almost like a V8... at WOT its insane.. but anywhere in between its loud, obnoxious and drones like a mother.

Hehe, nice description, Ant! I'll definitely be getting at least one resonator, if not two. $200 seems so cheap to me—did that include the muffler? Then again, it's just steel tubing we're talking about. How custom is "custom"? I assume a muffler shop actually bends the pipes themselves to fit?

I'd want 2.5 mandrel bending and I'd like stainless steel, even if it costs me $400. I don't want any rusting.

Eric, yes I did. SprintMax is the bomb-diggity! Everything seems to have changed over to my new username except the "posted by" column for old threads and any quotes that had my old username (Masaccio) in it.

That was without the muffler, the muffler I got for nothing... by other means. If you want mandrel bent tubing in stainless steel then your definately looking at a pretty penny. Find yourself a shop that obviously knows what they're doing and are experienced with custom jobs like this. I had problems with the first place I went to, they had no idea what I wanted. The second place I went to did a great job.
