Muffler suggestions

I finally installed my budget Y-pipe last weekend. Upon installation I have noticed my heat shield on my original muffler is gone.

I have noticed a noise difference in my exhuast already since my y-pipe installation.

Does anyone have an suggestions for a new muffler aside from replacing with the same? I am not looking to increase sound. However, I would go for something that increases sound at a high RPM(a high rpm that you would intentionally go out of your way to hit-not daily driver type of rpm).

I would appreciate any input. Also any web sites even if it is for original muffler type.

Thanks to all that read this post.

Regards,

MM

Here is a clip of my car with 2K muffler, WSP y-pipe, HAI:

http://www.v6atlanta.com/vids/2kexhaust.WMV

The only time I can hear a real difference is when I start up the car. I can hear a real low rumble. Almost undetectable unless you knew the car was dead silent before. I'm sure it's a little louder than stock at WOT / redline, but the intake completely drowns it out.

Right now I am considering about 10 different exhaust combos. We need a sound clip archive - I have vids of my car at all stages of modifications but so far it's not much.

We don't have muffler heat shields. There is one over the cat and one or 2 over the b-pipe but NO muffler shields.

Sweet clip SF!

Very nice! I am definitely going to look at that muffler.

Clips like yours get me all fired up to get my Max up to speed.

Thank you very much!

I'm gonna have to disagree(sp?) with you on this one Dave. I have taken the muffler heat shield off before, or either my car is the only one that has one.

On the 4-5 maximas I've worked on(95,96,97,98,99) I've yet to see a muffler heat shield. There is one for the headers, one for cat converter, and one on the rear part of the bpipe(where the bend is). Weird.

The 4-5 maximas? What's that? That is weird, I would have thought they would put one on all of the maximas. The floor of my trunk is hot from the muffler even with the shield on. I'd hate not to have one, because it could mess something up.

The 4 or 5 different maximas I've worked on. That's what it is. Yes there is a shield OVER the muffler but the way the thread starter wrote it made me think of one covering the bottom of the muffler. Oh well.

Well you cant go wrong with an Greddy sp. Stays a low tone for normal daily driving and kicks in after 3000. Im still waiting for the sp2 to come out.

My terminology may be off ,but what I meant by heat shield is the layer around the muffler itself. It is peeling off and there is another layer below it on the muffler.
I have pics on my cardomain site; 2nd page bottom
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/606963/

I have been searching the web sites for mufflers and have a general question.
For example, the OBX mufflers that I was looking at, is this all I need? I mean does it have the pipe on the back of it that brings it up to what I assume is my resonator pipe above the axle. I have seen pics of stock replacement that shows the pipe on the back of it that angles up to the next pipe.

Thanks in advance,

MM
