My car has treated me like crap for the past year. First I had the map/baro going off every other day. That map/baro problem has been solved. Now EGR code 0302 comes on every day. I changed the EGR valve and EGR solenoid valve and the damn code still pop up. Three Nissan technicians has reccommended that I should consider changing the ECU.

Today I went to a former Nissan technician who now owns his own shop. Just my luck he has a Maxima that is totaled sitting on his lot. It was his sister-in-law's car. She crashed it into a pole when she was driving and looking at an accident that occured earlier.

I got first dibs on the ECU. My car and that car are both 98's and automatic and those are the only similarities. Can I just simply do an ECU transplant or do both cars have to be exactly the same(options, trim, manufacturing date, etc.)?

Also, I get to take the leather seats from the donor car!

 

You'll be fine. You should stick with the same tranny (or you will get a code). Also I believe 95-96 are the same, 97-98 are the same (but can use 95-96 with a code so that it can be reprogrammed), and 99's are by themselves. If the wrecked car was a GXE then it may have a speed limiter around 120mph if you care.

 

It should work with no probs...........since 97-99 all have the same drivetrains..........
