Alright guys, I recently bought a '96 Maxima GXE and have started doing some things to it. Not enough to mention (yet).. but either way I have 4 basic questions that I need answered.

1. What octane gas does the users manual reccomend (I believe it to be 87), and what are your feelings on that?

2. What do you think is the best Fuel Injector Cleaner that I can buy, and how often would you reccomend doing so? (Every time I change the oil?) Also anything else along those lines... other cleaners, etc. What have you learned from your experiences?

3. Anyone out their that has the Stillen Body Kit for the '96 Maxima.. is it worth getting?

4. Last but not last, I went to my local Nissan dealership the other day with the mindset of buying the SE fog light set and installing them in my car. The guy behind the desk, however, told me that I could only buy the "square" foglights from the 3rd generation maxima's and that pieces for the SE set would run me about $300! Can someone explain that to me, and tell me where I can get the foglights. I was also hoping to find out how hard it is, instead of getting a switchplate, to get a new "handle-type thingy" that the foglights are on. (the thing w/ the lights that you turn them on with.. you know what i mean, i know you do)

Anyway, please help.. thanks guys.

Nissan recommends gasoline with 91 Anti-Knock Index for our 4Gen Maxima engine. Paying more for a higher AKI is a waste of money.

In many areas gasoline is sold with 87, 89, and 93 AKI. I fuel with equal amounts of 89 and 93. That's the economical way to buy 91 AKI fuel.

I consider all the name-brand fuel injector cleaners to be equivalent. They are all good. Chevron Techron is expensive but it claims to clean carbon deposits off intake valve stems. That has been a real problem on some engines, but not Nissans.

I recommend using fuel injection cleaner when you have a specific problem which it might help. I would not use it merely as a preventive measure.

Answer to Fog Light Question

Bdogg88,

Nissan sells a fog light kit foe the 95-95 Maxima GXE/GLE that consists of the same parts that come standard on the SE. The kit sells for $212 through Courtesy Nissan and includes: Fog lights, relay, and turn signal stalk with fog light switch. Detailled instruction are included and you should be able to install them in half a day. The hardest part is cutting a hole in the bumper. Don't listen to your dealer, the 93 SE lights are totally different and will not fit or look right.

Try giving them a holla at this number >>

1-972-644-3942

Tell them you belong to the Maxima BBS "club" and they'll treat you nice.

Ask for the entire foglamp kit for the model year you own.

If you talk to Courtesy through e-mail they will give you a quote for $176. When you call them they give you $212. I ordered some for my 97 a few weeks ago and just told them over the phone that I had been told they were 176 online. They gave them to me for 176 and I installed them myself. Only one of them works now but its because of the factory wire harness that came with the car stock so I just have to take it to the dealer and they will fix it under waranty. Good luck.

If you happen to ask the dealer again, tell him that you want the instalation kit for the '96 GLE model. The SE foglight kit isn't the same. The part number for the '95-'95 GXE with C&C and GLE foglight installation kit is 999F1-7F000. Hope this helps.

Daniel:

Other than being more expensive, any problems with putting in 93? I've used Shell Premium 93 since day one.

Thanks
