Need new brakes and rear calipers, what should i get

The price i got to have everything fixed was 700, they said i need all new rotors and pads, and new rear calipers. Is 700 enough for some type of bbk, or should i just get brembo slotted rotors? but what type of calipers can i get (preferbably painted black already)?

When you say ALL new rotors and pads, I assume front and rears...

Here is a parts breakdown (cost):
- Front Rotors: 20 - 60 bucks each
- Front Pads - 20 - 60 bucks for a set
- Rear Rotors - 30 - 70 bucks each
- Rear Pads - 30 - 60 bucks for a set
- Rear calipers - Reman. 100 bucks - 200 bucks each

My suggestion:

Front rotors - Nissan (120 for the pair)
Front pads - Nissan (60 for the set)
Rear rotors - Nissan (140 for the pair)
Rear pads - Nissan (60 for the set)
Rear Calipers - Reman from partsamerica.com (160 for both after returning your old for core credit).

Total cost: $540 - can do it much cheaper if you are willing to use cheaper rotors ($20 variety at autozone).

The reman calipers are painted black already.

Hope that helps. Not sure what the abbreviation bbk is referring to.

Real Big Brake Kits (bbk) from Wilwood or Brembo run more like $1500+. Cheap slotted/x-drilled will NOT yield better street driving performance. The only way to increase performance is to get 4 piston calipers or larger rotors. x-drilled/slotted rotors actually DECREASE resistance (total surface area of the rotor) and only promise to dissipate heat better. In real world 60-0 decelleration tests, you would likely LENGTHEN your stopping distance by adding rotors of the same diameter that are x-drilled or slotted.

Is it worth it in long run to get the kit that maximarider has for 1100? Will it last long and be transferable to my next car ? how long they usually last ? thanks

in street use, the bbk will probably last a couple of years, but if you use it on the track and drifting and etc use of brakes. the rotors will fall apart. proven fact. ask the guys on the track. and ask them how many brake kits they go through.

You don't have to go with OEM (Nissan parts)... another route:

Front rotors - Autozone OEM blanks - 40/pair
Front pads - Raybestos QuietStops - 40/set
Rear rotors - Autozone OEM blanks - 40/pair
Rear pads - Autozone Duralast - 40/set
Rear calipers - Partsamerica - 180/pair

Total cost of parts: $340..

With these brakes your car will stop fine - you might have annoyances like squealing (from the cheaper pads), more brake dust, maybe quicker rotor warpage (cheaper steel).

You might want to ask for help from an org member - I'm sure someone on the org will do the labor for a LOT less than any shop - heck if you were around here, I'd do it for you for a little chunk of change.

I am assuming that the $700 price is NOT a nissan dealer - since just a brake job with rotors and pads (front brakes for example) is 450 or so at the local dealers, so in your case, front and rear and 2 calipers, would be upwards of 900-1k at a Nissan dealer... so if you think about it that way, paying $540 for genuine parts and a little for labor would still be better than either the dealer or the 700 job (since you don't know what parts they are going to use).

Good luck.
