Removing antenna (not shaving it)?

The maxima I just bought has a "cut" antenna, like some kid thought it would be cool to vandalize the previous owners car by taking some cutters and snipping it off down near the base of the antenna where it gets retracted to. I just bought an OE replacement for $35, and looked at the instructions, which look extremely easy, except for the first part, where "a special tool may be required." Does anyone know how to remove the top mounting nut, or knows the name of the tool needed, or if you have had to do this in the past, please respond. Thanks guys.
Lou

All you need is a good pair of locking pliers and towel/cloth. Wrap the cloth around the nut and the base of the antenna (don't want to scratch the paint or leave teeth marks on the nut) and twist it loose. Then open the trunk and remove the jack so that you have access to the rest of the antenna.

Don't know if you can still return the dealer part - but you can but the replacement mast from pepboys for under 20 bucks and even of ebay for around 15bucks.

There are always guys selling them in the classifieds section on the org... If you post a WTB in the 4th Gen Classifieds I'm sure you'll find one cheap... o/wise try the junkyards.

sorry to bring a dead thread back to life, but I wanted to thank everyone for the responses...I don't know why I didn't think of something like that, but oh well. The antenna will be going in today...
