Street Suspension Set-up

I just got my hands on a 96 GLE, and the handling sucks. I would like to drop it a little. Not much more than an inch and still have a decent ride quality. My wife and new born baby still have to ride in this thing. Looking for input on the best street set up to get that would still yield a decent ride quality. Looking to upgrade the struts to kyb GR2's. I think the AGX might be too stiff. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

once you change your stock setup you won't get the same smooth ride.

Tokico Illumina struts and H&R springs will give you a really nice ride and great handling.

Stay away from KYB products (AGX & GR2) if you want a smooth ride, they are very firm struts.

What springs are the best to use, without that bouncy ride. One of my friends used B+G springs on his max w/ SE struts and he loved it. But I was looking at H&R. What you guyz think.

Oh just drop it 2.5" with coilovers like me. My 1yr old loves the bumps and it puts her to sleep real well.

It's realy my wife's car and she'll be driving it everyday not me. But when I do drive it I want it to handle like my SE-R. So I don't want anything too aggressive.

I just put on the GR2's With Eibach springs. I love this setup. Ride is stiff but not harsh. Night and day difference in the corners. $479 for the shocks and $210 for the springs. 3hrs labor at $75 per hr and $85 for alignment.

That's what I ran for 2yrs. Fairly sporty and decent performance. The Eibachs might be a touch stiff for cushy street driving. And the Koni's get harsh in sub freezing weather. (That might be all perf shocks too). Keep in mind that's my opinion with poly bushings, braces, and bars everywhere.

The SE springs are decent but are still a little soft for more than spirited driving.

Well I'm close to making up my mind after alot of searching. I'm def. going with GR2 struts with either H&R or Eibach(don't know yet), a progress RSTB. If there is anything esle I would need to for this job, please let me know. Like bumpstops, new strut mouts etc........

Will the KYB dustboots work with any shock/strut? Or are they only made for KYB shock/struts?

get the full tokico illumina kit. really nice.

The H&R's are way softer than the Eibachs BTW.

The GR2's are 15% stiffer than the SE struts. So the ride will be more firm or controlled, but by no means harsh. You'll hardly notice the difference in ride, but handling will be improved. I've used these struts on all my cars, without any complaint at all. Only advice I can give is not to put them on stiff aftermarket springs, they won't last.

illuminas are great shocks. I have them paired up with tokiko h-techs and love them. Perfect setup. Not harsh at all and not too bouncy either.

Just finished putting in my TEIN H Tech springs (not the S Tech) this last weekend... I have Koni Struts.

They are smoother than Eibachs and even the Intrax (both of which I had).

If you have the Koni rear struts... I recommend putting them in the lower perch position.. I'll have to remove them again...
