My new car
Hey guys, I just recenctly purchased a 1998 maxima GLE. Its a great car, with low miles (38k). Baught the car about 2 days ago, and I just so happen to feel some sort of tranmission slippage today - as thats what it felt like at least. To be more precise, if i gently push the accelerator, the rpms go to about 1-2k but it feels like its not really going anywhere. All of a sudden when i go a little past 2k i feel a little jerk/ hesitation and it starts to speed up. Don't get me wrong, the car does accelerate before i get the jerk, but I'm kidna scared the transmission is going already!! Someone pls. inform me. Also, to add to that issue, perivously today, i was making a left turn and the person i was with - sitting in the 'shotgun' - told me they heard some sort of griding/knocking sound coming underneath the floorboard of the car.
any advice/concerns/comments, please feel free to let them out.
Thanks in advance...

Have you checked the tranny fluid level and condition? It should be the nice pinkish colour you'd expect. If it looks Ok, make sure it's filled to spec. If it looks dirty and smells burned you may have trouble but I couldn't say for sure. 38000 sounds like pretty low mileage so hopefully you're OK.

my transmission does that EXACT same thing with the slipping and i think it's getting worse. my fluid is fine. but i have 117k miles. sorry i don't know what to tell you to do about it. my tranny seal is also leaking a little. i might try some kind of that transmission leak/slip fluid u see at autoparts. ill let you know if it helps out

Does this "slipping" happen when you are coming close to a full stop, but don't and then press the gas again? For example slowing for a red light and then it turns green, so you hit the gass and it feels like you arent going anywhere, like the car wont downshift into first, so you give it more and then the car springs into action? if it is then its normal. It is the crappy shift program. It has been discussed before. Mine is the same way.
