Rear main seal?

I have 160k miles and a mechanic suggested that I replace the rear main seal (i guess the crankshaft rear seal) while I get my clutch installed. Does this sound like a good idea.

How much is he asking for the fix? I know that to do one by itself it will cost around $500 ish from Nissan, most of which is labor.

He said it will take less than an hour ($65/h) since he'll already have everything off in order to install the tranny.

Do it when it is off, especially since you have 160K. I had my tranny replaced at 125K and the guy didn't even ask if I wanted it done, and now at 140k it leaks a little. I went to a different mechanic and told me that he would be happy to take my money if I wanted it done, but he would wait until I need a new clutch and do it then.

Mine probably started leaking at 80k miles. I would definitely recommend getting it done. The seal isn't cheap ($30-40) but the old one WILL leak sooner or later. And additional one our labor charge is about right.
