ok ok ok, i know that this has been covered a gajillion times. and yes i know theres a write-up somewhere. i dont have search function so i cant find it. and i looked in the how-tos. even when i read the how-to im still confused. you pull the harness off the original knock sensor and you put what kind of resistor in it? and your supposed to ground it? basically im looking to find out how to do this. i need to fix this temprorarily due to short on funds and im so confused on how it is done. help please!!!! what kind of resistor exact ohm and resistance and all and which you put in which and ground which.

Follow the harness back from the KS to where it connects to the sub-harness. Disconnect the connector and stick the ends of the resistor into the sub-harness connector. Tape it in so it doesn't fall out. The resistor is a standard carbon 470k Ohm, available at any Radioshack. The colour code on the resister is Yellow-Violet-Yellow-Gold, in case you have to buy an assorted pack like I did.

 

do i just put the resistor in between the 2 connectors or just into the one coming from the ecu. do i make the resistor loop the plug or ground it or what. im so confused still, i feel like such a noob, but then again that would be a good thing when it comes to ghetto rigging, but temprorarily its all i got.

if you're not electrically inclined, don't try to install the resistor by yourself.

 

The knock sensor is dead so when you disconnect the sub-harnass, nothing gets connected on the KS end of the harnass. There's two leads on the harnass. You connect the resistor between the ECU end leads of the harnass. A medium sized leaded resistor fit right in and then I secured it with electrical tape and stuck it between two hoses so it wouldn't flop around.

RUN NOTHING LESS THAN 91 OCTANE FUEL

And be careful whenever it's above 90F out. It's been really really hot here in DC lately, and even with 93 octane fuel and a working knock sensor, I still get some timing retard here and there. With the resistor plugged in the engine just runs full timing and might knock a little even with 93 gas.
