A/C how cool on a hot summers day?
I live in Texas where the temps all summer are 95+. I have just had my Max for 1 summer and was pleased with the AC performance. Mines makes a little extra noise but not much. It takes a little to cool down probably 2-3 min. But once there you should be comfortable.
My 96 Maxima's manual A/C works fine. I could barely feel the acceleration difference with A/C on and off. In summer here in CA, we always have a few days that are very hot outside. Even that time, if I set A/C temperature to the lowest, it usually takes about 2 minutes and then I feel very comfortable. And I have to either turn the temp a little higher, or turn it off for a short time, otherwise I will get cold (start to sneeze).
In my opinion, the AC in my 97 GXE is merely adequate. It's not horrible, and gets the job done, but it does fall short of much better AC's I've used in Toyota Camrys.
I've found that you MUST leave the windows open initially or the AC will never get that cold (you need to blow all that hot air out of the car). Once it gets going, the AC is not too bad though, although it really does choke in super hot weather (like 90+).

The A/C will be more then enough. Its not the coldest but it will work. Give it a few mins to kick in. For some reason, my 92 max a/c is colder then my 99.
As far as performance, you probably wont notice much but i did test it at the track once. I was 2/10 slower but i doubt any car will be super fast in the summer anyways. I'd rather ride nice and cool then over kill the engine by trying to go to fast.
Damn R-34a (i htink thats it) hehe.

agreed
i had a used 93 camry v6LE a year ago (bought it used with 88k) and I had the AC on and whoaa boy it was cold as heck in there despite 90+ days. The Maxima handles the 90+ days adequately but I doubt that I can get to the point where Iwould be cold--more or less just comfortable. Now this is full power of the AC (set 65 with 4 fan speed on)...

Here in NC, summer days are usually 80-90 degrees and high relative humidity. My A/C is not the best. Even at the highest setting, with recirc on, it never really gets cold. The air flow in the cabin is spotty at best, with zones of cool and warm air no matter how much I tweak the vents. I need the Mazda 626's "vent swing" button!

standard procedure
I was just wondering--what is the procedure that you guys take on hot days?
do you first open the driver side door...start the car...turn the AC on full power...while leaving the windows open (for the hot air to escape)...and then closing the windows in a few minutes after the AC has kicked in fully? by the way--do you guys use the RECIRCULATION button in your car for your AC? does that make it cool faster?
I know that in very wet rainy days, with the defogger on, it is very bad to use the recirculation on which only fogs things up faster...

I let my car air out while running the AC on settingg 3 for the first few minutes. Then I crank the AC to setting 2 and put the recirculate button. This usually works pretty well. My AC is pretty good, but I have black car, so the AC is always gonna have to work harder to keep the interior cool.

no maxing out
anyone here use the full power of the AC? that is the fan speed 4 of the AC...
I am asking cause it does get really hot in the summer and the leather doesn't really help...heheh
