Startup issue

Recently, my Max has developed a delay in starting. I will turn the key from ON to START and nothing happens. Then I'll go back to ON and then START again and it will turn over just fine. Sometimes I will have to repeat this twice. Sometimes if I hold the key at START for about 3-4 seconds it will turn over.

Also, it's usually from a cold start (after the car hass been sitting for at least an hour).

Is this something Autozone can run a diagnostic on? I would hate to replace the starter and learn that it is a relay or something else.

Just to be clear, once the engine starts turning over, the car starts and runs great.

Any ideas?

ditto

My wife's car has been doing this exact same thing since we got it. It has been to the shop twice for CELs and nothing came up at that time that had to do wth the starter system. It seems to be getting a little worse, but stills starts on 2-3 try. I had similar problem with my Nissan truck and it turned out to be the relay. Of course this was after I had the original starer rebuilt and then replaced.

Look at this link:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=328502

it will tell you the solution that I posted. Nissan released a new ignition switch that prevents the solder contacts from shorting each other.
