lookin' at maximas and i have a ???

I currently own a 1992 Maxima with a 143k and I LOVE it, but it's time for an upgrade and I drove a 1997 5spd SE (w/ 86k) today. The paint had a few scracthces and a ding or two (not a problem IMO), and it drove great. The interior is in excellent condition. The engine was smooth and strong. It has a new clutch, and the only thing I forgot to do was check the oil (my bad). I'm gettin' my mech to check it friday (the whole car I mean).

My question is whether or not there is anything special as a model/maxima specific problems I could check for. The car is $6000, is this a pretty good deal? My main question is the problems I should look for with this car. Thank you very much for your time.

That price doesn't seem bad. with any '95-'97 you should look for signs of the diffy bearing failure problem common in 5spd max's of those years. Look in the faqs for more info and read this http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/804. Have your mechanic check for leaks where the axles go into the tranny.

WOW sounds like a good find. i can't think of anything you should be aware of, but get a carfax report to have piece of mind, to make sure it hasn't been in an accident or anything. I bought my 97 SE with 85K for $8,000 last year, it now has 95K with no problems what so ever its my baby i love it!

Go to www.edmunds.com and check out what they say it should sell for. They are usually the best average of all of those books.

Nice find... Whats even nicer is that you are getting another Max. Tells you something about the car doesnt it. I dont know anyone that has gotten a newer model of their car beacuse they loved it. This is my 2nd also.
