Fuel Filter.

Can a dirty/old fuel filter hurt your performance and gas millage that much.

How exactly does it hurt it? Is it because it doesn't spray the gass evenly or with enough strength?

thanks.

Why not change it if its old?? I mean its not that much at all and it wont take long to change. The bottom hose may give you a bit of a headaque but 20 min or so its done.

I'd recommend putting the fuel filter for the Z on, its larger and filters better, plus will feed your engine cleaner gas as its more effecient that the stock one we have (man those faqs are helpful)

Just got mine changed and went through a whole tank of gas.

before i went approx. 250-275 (damn my rims) miles before fillup.

Now i've moved up to 298 for the full tank.

i used a Fram fuel filter.

If you go for the 300zx make sure it's from a '96 n/a. The size is noticeably larger than the oem Maxima fuel filter but it fits in the brace very well. Same connections...just wider.

I don't see how a new fuel filter is going to improve mileage.

i used a 300zx twin turbo filter which is larger than the n/a the sales person said. Thetre is no performance differance at all. but it cleans you fuel up better and last noticable longer.

the aggrivation i had when changing it i am glad i did the bigger filter cause i want it to be along time before i do it again. it is easy, but sometimes aggrivating.

buy a filter from the dealer. they might be more than at autozone but an oem filter is much better.

So if you can use the filter off of the 96 turbo Z, how would it fit in the stock brace? Or is there something that you would need to do.

Good idea!! I have small/med hands but big arms and it was a b!tch to get the hoses off. The first time I ended up cutting the bottom hose, and luckilly had enough slack to still use it.

It was a smooth operation when I changed mine, just follow the right up, also if you open your gas tank, that should releave some extra pressure in the lines. Twisting and pulling is a good motion also, helped me get the top and bottom off pretty quickly.

just changed mine today and after 37k miles i poured a ton of dirt out of the IN side of it. i also put in the 300zx one, it took 10 minutes. when i was done i took the old one and hacked it open, it looked pretty dirty hopefully it will get me some better gas mileage somehow.

Not sure but this is what I show as the part number for the 300ZX fuel filter 16400N7605JP. Get it from Jerry-Rome Nissan for $10.59 using the "MAXIMA" discount code.

i didn't have much rude language not cuts, but it did take a bit of time to get that sucker off, especially the bottom hose.
