Pacesetter STS and third gear

I've had my Pacesetter STS for a while now and I've always had trouble getting into third gear. If I have the shifter in the neutral position and push the shifter straight up, it goes into third gear about half the time. To get smoothly into third, I actually have to pull the shifter slightly towards first and then up to third. Does anyone have any ideas on why this happens? Is it normal for the Pacesetter? Any known fixes?

Thanks.

I have a pacesetter sts, and I have that problem too. I have gotten used to pulling it a little towards first when going to third. Doesn't bother me anymore, but when my friends drive my car, they can't get it into 3rd half the time.

If I am not careful, my problem is going to fourth. I have never had a problem getting to third, but going to fourth, half of the time I hit second. I am trying to work on that. I do think, maybe, that my fiance has complained about third before. Pacesetter sts, too.

u just have to get used to it i guess. I have no problems getting into any gears after driving with STS for almost 2 years now. But when racing, going to 3rd gear involves a miss 1/4 of the time....

That sucks...I have a B&M and luckily I've never experienced that.

Just out of curiosity...could it be the pacesetter being adjusted 'too low'?

I have mine at about 50-60% of the original throw. The throw works well and shifter feels solid overall. The only complaints I have is that the shifter should be bent back more and should center properly in neutral. I guess you get what you pay for.

B&M....no problems...

Could the problem be the spring that pulls the shifter back to center neutral? Maybe you didn't put it on properly after installed the Pacesetter, or maybe the Pacesetter connects to the spring improperly (design flaw).

I had the pacesetter in my b13 and went to the B&M, the pacesetter was very difficult to shift sometimes whereas the B&M is much easier...
