Should I sell my car or keep it?
Should I sell my car or keep it?
Hey guys what's up. I have a beautiful '97 Max that's in excellent condition. But I often have dillemas where I feel that I should stop modifying my car and sell it and save up for something else. Right now I'm about 19, going to school full time and hopefully will attain a part time job. The car I'm pursuing is a G35 coupe. But my Max is no run of the mill car which is why I contemplate on keeping it. First off the body is in EXCELLENT condition. And I'll list my mods.
Exterior:
Carbon Fiber Hood
Sparco Hood Pins
Diamond Cut Clear Corner
Z3 Fenders
Stillen Aero Kit
Red/Clear Tails
5% Limo Tint
New Headlights, and Corner Lamps
LED Mirrors
Lighting:
Hanabi 8600K HIDS
Sho-Me 6 65 Watt Strobe Light Kit
Polarg Hyper whites all around
Suspension:
Progress RSB
CustomMaxima.com FSTB
Tokico Illumina 5 way adjustable Struts
H&R Springs
18 x 7.5 Racing Sport wheels (Black Mesh with Polished Lip)
Interior:
Aluminum Dash Kit
"Maxima" Door Sills
"Maxima" Door Inserts
Audio:
Pioneer Premier 850MP Headunit
Stock Bose tweeters and speakers
Kicker Amp
2 12" Rockford Fosgate Top of the line Subs
Security:
Viper 791XV Responder
Proximity Sensor
Performance:
Injen CAI
Budget Y Pipe
Stillen B Pipe
Stillen Rear Section Muffler
So based on this my car has been heavily modified I spent a lot of money on it, so what do you think I should do? BTW, I did a compression test my results were a consistent 183PSI in all banks, I keep up with the maintanence so the only legitimate reason I can think of wanting to sell my car is 1.) Age 2.) Mileage (122K) All opinions are welcome

At 19 and going to school full time there's no way your getting a g35 (I'm also 19 and going to school) unless your parents buy it for you. I'd say wait 'til you graduate and get a high paying job, then get the G. That's exactly my plan actually (G35 and all)
. The max really is a great car and it's certainly nice to have a car that you can count on to get you through college, but still be fun to drive.

Well no one can get full retail of what they paid for mods that's a given and I'm sure most people take that chance and risk knowing willingly that they can will not make back what they will spend on aftermarket parts.
Dood ... first off ... you're 19. Chill out. When I was 19, I had a 100,000+ mile '90 honda accord lx with cloth seats, 5MT and hubcaps. And I loved it.
I too aspired to a G35 coupe but man ... believe me ... you want to pay that maxima off. I can't possibly get rid of a high mileage, paid off '98 that will easily last another 6 years and 100k miles if I take care of it. I pay $100 a month in insurance to have my car on the road. Can't beat that.
Don't get yourself into a $500/month car payment. And if you were thinking of leasing cause it's cheaper ($375/mo if you're lucky), leasing is a ripoff for most people and you can kiss serious mods goodbye unless you plan on buying it at the end of the lease.
You got your 15 minutes of fame by listing every stock and aftermarket part on your car. Happy?
What was the length of your mudflaps again?

Keep it , you will never get your money out of it. plus it has another 100,000 good miles left in it. Christ when I was 19 and going to uni I drove a 55 dodge I bought out of a wreaking yard for 50$, and I was working part time in a gas station making one dollar an hour and no one had heard of a computer.....lol

Ok first off I was employed by a leading technology firm around my area where I sold teleco and other high end networking systems / products to major firms within tri state areas, so I was making a lot of money to support my modding hobby. However, the company went bankrupt and a lot of people were layed off including me. I hate to inform you but there are a lot of kids out there 16-20 who either A.) Work by themselves, or B.) Get it from their parents ... cars that is. And when I say cars I mean M series BMWs, AMG Benzes, and other high end cars that most people in their middle ages have a hard time affording. Second of all I didn't do it for fame, I did to get opinions of what I should do in the near future. I'm not even considering getting a G35 coupe for atleast another year but again it's something to think about and something to have a grasp on. Again thanks for the comments and opinions.
I'm 19 too and I just got my maxima I have had a job since i was 15 and until i was like 17 I never had anything to spend my money on the only reason I got my Max was cuz I busted my *** for 3 years then bought a Jeep fixed it and sold it to make a profit then bought the car. I saved alot and would never think of selling my Max while in school for another car that I would be making payments on it's just not worth it cuz you go to school then you would be working everday before or after its definitly not worth it cuz your only gonna be drivin to and from school and to and from work no time to cruise around and no money to mod it and barely enough to afford it for payments and insurance. Oh yeah if you wanted to lease you gotta think about it yeah it is cheaper but your 19 your gonna go wayy over the allowed mileage... Haha just my opinion but do what you think you need.

All I have to say here is people need to stop trying to keep up with the Jones's. Why ask people here what should you do with your stuff? How does this benefit the next Max owner in this forum?
I'm going to start being a stickler about these types of threads because this forum should be for questions on how to fix the car. These threads make no sense.
