True Or False: Altima Tranny Will Fit Maxima

I read somewhere on the org that someone had replaced their Maxima Tranny with one from an Altima. I know the I-30 will fit but did not know if a Altima's one would. Can anyone answer this cause i need to get one to replace mine and if an Altima tranny will fit that would be great. Also what other year Maxima's tranny would fit a 95?

I'm not sure about the altima transmission question. Unless you're talkning about the new V6 5 spd. ones, then maybe. But I know that you can't swap a 4 cyl. altima tranny into our V6's. You can however put trannies in your car from maximas within 95-01, and certain year I30's (I'm not familiar with these).

The V6 Altima trans will fit. None of the 4-cyl ones will, regardless of matching model numbers.

Hmmm... one would think matching models #'s means they're the same... cause I know they're the same #. Ah well... learn something new every day I guess.

The trans model numbers are the same, but they have different bellhousings to fit the KA24 and QR25 4-cylinder engines. Neither of which fits a VQ.

I think the proper term is tranny case, or gear bix case not bellhousing. bellhousing is a term used for auto trannys.

Any VQ transmission will fit any VQ Engine. The problem is that the new 3.5 Maximas and probably Altimas too are cable shift instead of having a beam. Converting that is a major PITA. I think the mounts may be different too for the 6 speed and maybe 3.5 5 speed from altima. I do know that the Tranny input will fit fine.

The KA24, VG, and VE may all have the same tranny input. I know the VG and VE share the same but not sure about the KA. That would make a VG30DETT swap easier in some ways for a 240sx if it will fit in the engine bay.
