97 maxima.. maintenance for noob.

hello..

i am gonna have this car as my daily driver.

the thing that bothers me is that oil prob. i've posted it before, and there isn't a certain answer. the closest thing is that it burns oil as at times during initial startup there is a blue tinge to white smoke. this happens at times, but mostly 90% or so. but after the initial start-up everything is fine.

but i want to know what types of maintenance i can do to keep this car running and preventative maintenances i should do. i really dunno if we are going to keep this car, but that isn't really for me to decide. buying a new car is just too costly and not really worth it, if u get a ding, a dent, and the depreciation factor. and the fact of buying a used car and not knowing how its history was also puts uncertainty.

but for now, i think trying to keep this car is what i should do.

i've checked out the faq and what not, and noticed the search is for certain people w/ privelages.

i want to do things that are effective and not be over-sensitive in doing everything and what not. cost is a factor so i have to pick wisely.

i have done oil changes up to date w/ 10w-30 mobil 1, K&N oil filter. air filter. the coolant was flushed but i sitll haven't found a definate answer about filling it up w/ water then just pouring 100% coolant and it will balance itself out.

i am going to do the fuel filter and maybe spark plugs later on.

thanks..
