The search faeture is not working. I tried.
Is 87 octane ok to use, if not, what do you guys use?
Is 5w30 the oil most people use?
TIA

if you want your knock sensor to go bad you can use 87 but it requires 93 octane and 10w-30

No, no and yes.

Fuel octane will not affect knock sensor life.

91 octane is recommended by the manufacturer for optimum performance and fuel economy. 87 will work, but you may lose a few poines, that's all.

10w30 is what you need.

All of this info is in your owner's manual.

give your Max what it deserves - Premium

You can use 5w or 10w 30 oil depending on the kind of climate you live in

Also the difference between 87 and 93 is like $3/tank (even less with the difference in fuel economy). Definitely worth it to me.

Go with Premium.
I ran regular unleaded in my Max for like a year, and it ran okay.
Then, I started using 93 in it, and it runs Great now!

Also, I use 10w-30 Mobil 1 Synthethic oil. It works great, and stays clean for a long time.

Doesn't the manual call for 5w-30? I think so; I know it does on the 00 maximas anyway.

I've still not heard either way if 87 long term will cause some undue wear, even with the knock sensor running to keep things in check. What it will do is lower gas mileage (only a little - not as much as the money you save going to 87), and it will lower performance a little. I do 93 just to be safe (91, which is recommended, isn't really available in BHAM)

The manual specifies that you can use 87 if you have to, but recommends 91+. That is because you will be killing the knock sensor, and potentially hurting your engine with predetonation ping.....from not high enough octane in gas.

I could have sworn 5w-30 was the recommended oil too . . . . . mzmtg - what gives? Know about a problem that 5w-30 causes?

5w-30 is fine in colder (temperate) climates, but in the south and southwest it's just as well to use 10w-30. the lower number means the oil is less likely to freeze when it gets that cold.

sometimes I fill the tank half with 93 and half with 89, sometimes I fill it all with 93, I used 87 when I first got her, the knock sensor peaced out twice so I started using higher grade and it's been running better ever since
