DR mod with an in-dash LED wiring help

I’ve done the DR mod before, but due to the lack of time and proper fasteners it was un-reliable and looked very messy under the hood (copper pipe as a bracket with zip ties ).

I've got myself a new miroswitch (5amp) and for sh-its and giggls I also got a bi-colour LED (red-green). I plan to mount the LED in the blank slot on the driver console. I wanted to have the LED green when the DR was normal and turn red when it disengaged. The LED calls for a forward voltage of 2.1v for green and 2v for red. I was thinking I could just attach the negative to the COM on the microswitch and run a wire from the NC and NO with different resistors to achieve the 2.1 and 2.0v for the different colours. The problem is, I tested the current running through the DR wire and I only registered .1v, I put it in reverse and put the ebrake on and tested again and still .1v.

Now I think I’m screwed with only .1v the LED won’t light up at all. Is there any way to up the voltage, or did I tap the wire that is coming out of the DR, so possibly if I tap the other wire I would get a 12v source???

Any opinions or advice is welcome, has anyone done as setup like this?

you'll have to use a relay and a resistor
connect the coil of the relay to the DR and have power running out of the relay to the new resistor then to the led

gotcha Ill pick up a relay and the apropriate resistors. should I hook the LED up to the dash illumination switch or simply to the dash lights?

i would use an acc line, that way it will come on when you have your headlights off

I'd want it on regardless of the headlights, so ill still see it blink over when its daytime.

i was just saying that b/c if you tied it into your dash lights or the illumination switch, it would only come on when those lights come on - when your headlights come on.

I ran a wire straight from the DR to an led switch and installed it like you are talking about. My light is green and matches some of the other lights in the dash so it blends in instead of standing out.The red light idea sounds cool but if the green light is off on mine I know my DR is off not to mention getting my head jerked back when I'm not expecting it.My light stays on all the time when the car is running until I turn it off.Still like the sound of the green light/red light switch though.
