front axle

I have a problem. I was getting my brakes worked on when the guy told me that I needed my left front axle replaced. As you can probably tell I don't know much about cars. The problem is the thing that holds the grease in is busted. I was wondering if any of you all have any idea what I am talking about and how difficult this is to replace. I have done some work before but nothing extensive.

There ya go. Since you don't know how long the boot's been busted you shouldn't just replace the boot like he did, you should replace the whole axle. If you don't want to do it yourself, it probably be about an hours labor for a mechanic (that's the quote I was given anyway).

i just got this done... it cost me around $200... yeah, you're gonna want to replace the entire axle and not just the cv boot (the thing that holds the grease) seeing as how you don't know how long it's been torn. dirt, water, etc could have gotten inside. good luck.

$200 isnt a bad price, changing the axles isnt too hard of a job, I changed both of mine by myself a few months ago.

As the other guys said, if you do not know how long the boot has been ripped, you would be better off replacing the entire axle.

Get them from www.raxles.com - axles built to OEM spec or better and definetly WAY cheaper than the dealership!

I just installed new front passenger and driver side axles from there and they are of awesome build quality!
