Max is totaled, :( What to get next?

I had what I though a repairable accident. But turns out Progressive feels differently. So they say they'll cut me a check for 100% of the cars value which I'm hoping is something north of $3500. I'm scared that it mightbe less than that seeing as how the refused to fix it and the damage total was only like $2k.

I'll be able to add $2k on top of the money they give me and would like to try either a 97 manual max or something reliable with a v8. Any opinions?

Pics before and after.

The original tire and rim were damage in the accident. The donut was a junkyard one.

How many miles? Must be alot if they totaled it for only 2k. I'd say for that price range another max is definitely the way to go. You will love the 5spd.

how in the hell would they decide that was totalled??? if they do, and dont offer you around 4k, your insurance is taking the easy way out and hoping youll take it up the *** without a fight.

that car could sell for 4k easy, so clearly that very minor damage is not totalled, and no freaking way itd cost 2k unless their 'professional' appraisers give them the spiel about having to repaint the whole ****ing car just to match the colors.

so if they say its totalled and offer you noticeably less than 4k id say tell them wrong answer, try again, threaten them if they deny you, and if they keep on insisting they want to give it you up the *** hot and sweaty, take em to court. chances are they'll just settle out of court for something that barely made it worth your time, but at least you wont be out a car and hundreds of dollars of value you own with it.

anyway it really depends on what they give you. if they give you upwards of 3.5k id take it, buy the car back if its cheap enough, and sell it for 1500 if you can make a profit that way.. i really dont know what theyd sell it back to you for, so i have no idea if that would work.

i hope they do right by ya and dont give you some stupid offer like 2k.

also, if you want it fixed, id fight to get it fixed. thats minor damage imo. buy a junkyard door and fender and front bumper, thats MAYBE 300 bucks, paint it, probly 200 or so, and there ya go. the wheel from a yard may cost 15-50 bucks.

most insurance companies will let you keep the car and cut you a check for the amount that was appraised to repair it.. if you can get them to not total it.

but is the car being in a junkyard with total loss written on it kinda permanent?

if so, live and learn i guess.

yeah, its kinda permanent. it really ****es me off though because i've driven the car for over 1000 miles since the accident and other than air whistling on the freeway, it rode no different. They're going to give me the check amount by wednesday they said so I guess i'll have to wait until then.

About buying the car back, how does that work? They'll give me a check and let me buy it back from them? I could try that. thanks for the info everyone.

I would try to buy it back. Ask the place that is holding it. They may get dibs on it. My dad works at a body shop and that is so not a $2000 job. You could also look for cheaper fender and mess with the door so you could sell it and make some cash on it if you are uncomfortable with the repair.

my whole right side was crushed right in that area, and allstate still fixed it with my 500 deductable [full coverage of course] but appearntly collision revision told the apraiser it would be a 3k job and they spent 6k somehow fixing it....oh well not my cash and it looks brand new, haha <3 my max!

edit :: i was t-boned by a 62 ford falcon!

whoa that sucks man... i'm surprised they won't fix the car. I had damage repaired by insurance which totalled close to $2200, but it didn't look as bad as yours. My car, at the time, had 160k miles, '96 SE.

You should get more than $3500 for sure. What's the KBB on the car right now?

anyways, good luck.

If you could, just buy it back and don't bother repairing it. Then you end up with money in your pocket.

Otherwise, a new max. $5500 will be tricky to get a 97, but you can do it.

forgot to mention this. I had had another bad accident about a year ago under Statefarm insurance and the collision shop estimated the repairs to be $3800 and they still fixed the car. Thats why i'm really confused. The first accident was way worse. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/562525/3
