Problems with A/C on 96

This is a question for anyone who knows their A/C stuff. When I first start using my A/C it blows cold (not very) and the longer the A/C is on the warmer it gets. If I shut it off for a little while (15-20 mins) and turn it back on it gets cold again for a little while. I had a mechanic check the pressure in the lines and everything seems to be correct. Any suggestions?

p.s. its an auto climate control unit

I've got a 96 with climate control. When I hit "Auto", with the temperature dwon to 65 or wherever you want it, the fan cranks up to full blast. Something happens, and it starts getting warmer. After palying around with it, I think what's happening is that it kicks into Econ mode, where the compressor doesn't kick in, and the best it can do is pull fresh hot air from outside (and in Texas its almost always hot). Never took it in and had it looked at, but what I do now is to hit the Auto button, then immediately hit the fan speed control to low. I give it a minute or two to start getting real cold, then I turn the fan speed back up, and then its blows fine at high speed. Sometimes though, I can only get it going to 3 out of 4 bars, then it reverts back. But, bottom line, start it at low speed, wait for it to get cold, then slowly turn up the speed. Hopefully this helps!

All it might need is a simple charge. Look into that.

Check the operating pressure again, specially the high side. It sounds like you have OVER HEAD PRESSURE problem, which cause ur A/C kicks on and off constantly or so called SHORT CYCLE. The problem sometime due to a dirty condensor or condensing fan failure. BTW, high side pressure is appx 150 PSIG @ normal operating condition.
