1998, it's the newest year that's not 1999.

97's are almost the same as 96 but have the updated look, interior and exterior
98's are the first year of side airbags
only 99's have the amb button and auto traction control

I like 97-98 the most. If I wanted a fast 4th gen it would be a 96-97 and if i wanted to pimp a 4th gen it would be a 98. Its all in what you like. I do have to add that I30's rock. I get to drive a 01 I30 occationally and i really like it.

But at the moment I like my 98.

Depends

Depends on what you want if for. If you are really looking to tune something up then go with a 95-96 one big reason is because you can put ecu and mevi in without CEL light. But if you are not looking to do a lot of mod work then I would go with a 98.

If you can go for a 96 I30 with a manual tranny...that what I got! Benefits include all options available on gle max + (possibly) VLSD, adjustable head rests, better looks, easier cefiro conversions, same mechanics as maxima, so all the performance parts are the same, and if you get teh 5 speed VLSD, there is the rarity of that as a plus!

I have auto climate control and heated seats in my 1997 SE.

I have heard the digital odo is good for 10WHP though.

Only thing I can think of different between the 98's and 99's are the 99's have the SE-L package, and were avalible in a few different other colors.

Heated seats were avalible from 95 on up.

98 was the 1st year of the better auto-climate control. 98s also 1st got the digital odo and the gas gage and temp gage facing each other in a symmetrical fashion. Same in the 99s.

The 99s have the rare red SELs, but an un-touchable ECU, unfortunately.

So 98s can now get an ECU, MEVI combo WITHOUT a check engine light?

95 baby....Although I love all maximas, I personally like the grill of a 95 and 96 better. Only thing i dont like about my 95 is the cup holders. Other than that...a max is a max...

i agree.... the i30's look very old IMO especially if you have a white one. no offense to anyone.

id personally get a 97-98 cause you can get the sweet stillen kit, easily do the red clear tails, gen 2 altezzas.

i have a 95 and so far have gotten the 97+ trunk, and as a matter of fact i just installed my gen 2 tails which came in today, lookin sweet.

not only do the 95-96 hae the ecu available with no CEL, but if i remember correctly were lighter than the 97+ with the 95 being the lightest but in 96 there was some impact/crash upgrades which added a few lb's.

Only reason I can think of is because of the ECU, and Cali spec cars.. Other than that, it's basically the same car.

98s are better than 97s, didgital odomter.

98 I30s look so bad in my opinion with that complete light going across the trunk. When I look at them I dont see how its supposed to be better than maximas

the only problem with say a 1995 is that the cupholder is really a rectangular hole, with groves in it. now, tell me, isn't there a Nissan part that actually is a cup holder, that plugs into that aforementioned hole, thus giving you real cup holders?

'99 models have the infamous ignition coil problem

but really, if I had to choose another 4th gen, it would be another '98 SE, but loaded, in either sterling mist or black, or even Arctic White Pearl again.
