Alternator Testing?

Alternator removal

yo wutup all just was wondering if there's a way to test the alternator yourself?? anyone know of a simple DIY way to test it. I think my alternator is goin bad but i wahn't to be compleatly sure. thanks

get a dmm(digital multimeter) and put it on your battery terminals and check for voltage. Second option, go to your local friendly autoparts store (ie autozone, pepboys) and have them test it, usually for free.

anyone know it starting ur car, leaving it on for a little then removeing the battery connection while its on will testit??? i heard if you do that and the car stiops then the alternator is bad... it this true?

i know theres a write up on motorvate but do u need a special tool for lossen the belt tensioner and also how can u tell how many revolutions u loosen it too??

DO NOT DO THAT!

That is very, very bad for your electrical system. Just take it to autozone and have them test it for free.

No special tools are needed to lossen the belt tensioner.

You just loosen the bolt in the middle of the pulley (with a wrench) then you loosen the nut on top that moves the pulley up and down (with a wrench).

on motorvate is says 810 revoltions how will i know this?

Common sense would lead one to the conclusion that a typo has been made.

He means 8 - 10 revolutions.
