i turned 16 about 6 months ago and i got my dads 95 gle with 115k on it. It was bought new in 95 and has been well taken care of. I love the car but it is all i get.(no trade in or selling it) I seriously think that i have the slowwest maxima there possibly is. I raced a 96 gle with 100K and auto and he smoked me. What realistically can i do to make the car faster( i dont think my dad would go for NOS) i am not a bad driver cause my dad raced cars and tought me everything he knows but what things can i do?? thanks

I would give yourself a little more time to learn how to drive. You may think you know to drive. Maybe the car needs to be tuned up. I honesty don't a good reason why your car is slow.

apart from what little nicky says.. i would just like to add that you might want to check the plugs, fuel filter, oil, other little nicks and nacks that can affect performance

Most people on this board do this, but I just want ot make sure. . . Yuu do put at least 92 octane in your car right? There is a knock sensor that will retard performance with anything less.

Ok

first things first. Gain experience in driving. Second, check the wear and tear parts of the car. Third, learn the car...know it's limits. (that explains why many drivers of brand new cars crash within the first 72 hours)

I can out drive on the twisties a Ferrari with a max if they driver of the ferrari doesnt know the limits of his car. A superb driver in a Geo Metro can outdrive a bad driver of ANY car.

Fourth..dont race on the street it kills many young drivers. Don't get cocky and overestimate yourself. Learn before you race to handle your car to the limit and know when its going to go over. Therefore when you are racing you will know what to do WHEN you are in trouble instead of racing and NOT knowing what to do when the s4it hits the fan.

5th Know the course of where you will be racing...know it better than your bedroom. Knowing where all the turns are and their types will help you prepare for the turns.

These are tidbits i learned while going to Bondurant school of racing. I recommend going to a safety driving school then a performance racing school. Both will teach you things that may save your life.

You can take my advice or ignore it.

Oh yes

SAFETY over SPEED. The best race is the one you walk away from. When modding SAFETY first (suspension/brakes before the charger)

Just enjoy your "new" ride. You should consider yourself very fortunate that you get to drive a Max at age 16 and for the right price!! Check to see when was the last time your old man got it tuned up (like someone mentioned on this thread). Learn how to drive and master it before you start modding it too because it has plenty of power for any average person. Plus if your dad truly took care of it, then 115k is not the end of the world on these engines. I am not into modding my Max but there are plenty of people on this forum that can lead you in the right direction.

my dad got me a 95gle when i turned 16. now i am 20 and i put 70k in the car. i noticed a decrease in peformance so i got a full tool up at a nissan dealer and they replaced everything with factory parts for 400. It drives as it did when i got. I got 17in. rims and performance tires so maybe do that and you will get better crip to the road. Do not do any mods to the engine, intale or outtake because they will just make your car work harder and will decrease its life, especially on your car with over 100k. just worry about making it look good (tint, tims, spoiler, system)the car is already fast enough. i never got a ticket and i live in philly. drive safe and respect the power. you are drivinf something that can kill you and others. Not that many kids get nice cars like that. be safe.

Enjoy the ride!! Drive safely and pick your battles accordingly. Max's are definitely sleepers.

Might need a little tunning or something but you are lucky because my first car when I was 15 (I used to live in Kansas and we got our permits there when we were 14) was a 2 door Geo Metro. I would have given anything for a better car when I was that age. Dont take it for granted. Max's are great cars and will last a long time if you take care of them. My buddy's dad has 295K miles on his 97 GXE no exaggeration at all and the only thing he has done is replace the breaks and change the oil and just other regular maintenence stuff. Have fun and be careful racing. You got a great car
