I need to change the mid pipe and muffler on my 99 SE auto. How much of a PIA is it to get the two bolts out of the Cat where the mid pipe bolts to it? Where is the best place to get a good price on a stock exhaust?

 

I wouldn't say it's an easy task unless you are handy. Why get a stock exhaust? You should already have one unless you ****ed it up.

 

Here is what I would do:
1. Keep your stock cat (unless it is rusted)
2. Keep your stock resonator in the b-pipe.
3. Have the rest of your b-pipe cut off and have some custom piping bent @ 2.5" and put under there for like $50 at a local muffler shop.
4. Choose a muffler you want them to weld on there (I would recommend either stock, or stock 5th gen....they are both quiet, and would be good.)
5 You are done.

This would all give you about a 5hp gain.....
Couple that with a y-pipe, and youa re looking at a total of like 20hp or so.(give or take a few.)

When you say midpipe, do you mean B-pipe? The midpipe is a component in an aftermarket INTAKE setup...

I guess it`s the B pipe, it has the resonator in it. Goes from the cat to the muffler. This is my wifes car and I don`t want to make it any louder.

 

That is the B-pipe. Get one w/ a resonator, and keep a stock rear muffler.

I have an aftermarket Y, and only the unresonated B-pipe made it louder.

 

In theory.
I have been debating dropping it recently.
Also, I have been pressed for time of doing it.
I just put it all on pause for a while. I don't know.
I just really really really like the way it rides right now. I would hate to screw that up.
