Check Engine Light, your opinion?

First of all, I own a 1996 Maxima SE

Ok it all started about 3 months ago, when i had the Check Engine light for the first time. I browsed the internet and found this website

http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html

so I diagnosed it myself and found the following codes

Knock Sensor
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor

I resetted the ECU to see if it would come back and it didn't. About 800km later, it came back. Diagnosed it again, with same codes. Reset again, not coming back until today (about 1000km later) and its still the same codes.

my guess is that if those sensors were really defects, the codes would have come back immediately, so im saying its probably something between the ECU and the actual sensors. connections or something.

any suggestions on tests to do to make sure my sensors are in good condition?

thank you

ECTS-- replace it first. Then check the codes and see if the KS code goes away(a CEL will not be triggered). If the KS comes on too, then replace it.

ok so what youre saying is that one of the two sensors may indeed be defect and that is what causes the second error?

It has been known that hte KS code comes up with other codes even though it MAY not be bad. So it would make sence for you to do the way I told you to in my other post.
