Cobra 13" BBK is on [PICs]

First I just want to say thanks to a few people. Jeff92se for the brackets and his help, CandiMan for the centering rings, AuToMaX_95 for the rotors and having them re-drilled to maxima factory specs, Jaime for the great deal on the calipers and brake lines and the Jeff from MaximumTuning for the install.

Here are the pictures:

The parts:
-relocation brackets
-rotor centering rings
-1998 Cobra Rotors re-drilled to spec
-z32 Aluminum calipers
-calipers Hardware Kit
-SS Conversion Brake lines (z32 to 240sx)
-PBR Axxis Ultimate Brake pads
-grade 10.9 Mounting hardware

Price: Parts - $550 / Labor - $125

They fit just perfect under the wheels (Bortex RPM2 17x8 +35 offset)
I have about 100 miles on these and all I can say is that the stopping power is amazing. The brakes have a very nice feel and they have a lot of travel before the brakes lock up. I don’t know what else to say about them so ask away and ill try and answer.

hey, that looks really sweet. I was wondering if you plan to do anything to the rear brakes? Also, could you post where you got the parts from and how much they cost? Did you have to pay a core charge with the calipers?
Are you still gonna be able to fit your factory 15 or 16 inch rims with that 4 piston caliper on there?
Thanks again

Parts cost me $550, but i got a great deal on a few parts, thats why it came out so cheap.

-relocation brackets $45 Jeff92se
-rotor centering rings $45 CandiMan
-1998 Cobra Rotors re-drilled to spec $160 AuToMaX_95
-z32 Aluminum calipers $250 derrick or Ebay
-calipers Hardware Kit $50 Link
-SS Conversion Brake lines (z32 to 240sx) $90 Link
-PBR Axxis Ultimate Brake pads $45 Link
-grade 10.9 Mounting hardware $15 http://www.metricmcc.com/

These are the max prices that you should pay for the stuff, so it would max out at $700. Even that is a great deal for a BBk.

As for the rear im just going to get new pads and rotors.

Any stock maxima wheel will not fit. Look for wheels that fit 98 Mustang Cobras all those should fit.

Ill be using these wheels in the winter cause i got them with tires for $650, so if they take a pounding in the winter its not a big deal.

geo1317,

The brakes look good!...what had to be done to re-drill the rotors to spec?

I know the feeling...I've got the same calipers on my max...only difference is that I'm still running 300zx rotors

I need to order the damn brackets from Jeff

Why are they re-drilled to spec? I thought off the shelf stock cobra rotors will fit fine with the centering rings? only thing I can think about is that you had the lug holes redrilled to allow the smaller holes since the cobra studs are bigger dia. right?

i had AuToMaX_95 re-drill the 5 holes so that they are to maxima specs. The pattern is still the same but the holes are a bit smaller, the cobra ones are bigger, so i now have ten not five holes. Ill take a picture the next time i have the wheels off.

I understand why you had them re-drill I'm just trying to see was it necessary. With you re-drilling the rotor that eliminates the need for the rings. I guess you can continue using the rings for that "extra" centering. Just curious how you came up with the idea of re-drilling the rotors, was it your decision, did you or anyone else see a need to re-drill the rotors? The reason I'm asking is because this kit was designed to be as inexpensive as possible, and $45 to rings is a lot cheaper than $160 for re-drilling. Even that Z32 guy who was one of the first to use a Cobra rotor with his car never saw the need to re-drill, he even created his own rings.

It's good to see a +35 offset wheel clears the rotor because I'm eye balling another set of wheels with a +35 offset.

The redilling was probably to eliminate the possible stud "hit" or whatever was the slight possible cause. Unless you machine the new holes to a very tight tolerance (ie.. much tighter than the stock holes are), it won't really help with the centering. So IMHO the rings are still needed.

But the redrilling is a novel idea though. I wonder how much it would cost to get some material welded and remachined to the Nissan hub bore?

As for the offset, it's part if it. You can see the spokes are fairly flat. But you can also see how far out the spokes are set. They are pretty offset on the wheel as noted by how the lugs are pretty far in the wheel.

You can actually fit 15' on that rotor? i thought maybe 17 min.

What if you wanted Cross Drilled rotors, would it be possible to have them re-drilled for a cheaper price or would it still be $160?

No you can't. 13" diamenter put a few inches for the caliper = 15" no chance.

For winter, I get some Z rotors, have them shaved down and run some 16" 300z na rims up front. Or just put on the stock calipers/rotors

sweeeet, the stopping power of my car is just horrible. I was redlining and coming to quick stops one night just enjoying the VQ. My rotors heated up very quickly and I felt nothing when i hit the brakes. This mod looks perfect

I dont check the boards too often, are some folks having issues of stud hitting. Even with the rings alone I don't see the need to re-drill. The rings help center the rotor onto the hub, the acorn style lug nuts will center the wheel studs with the larger Cobra rotor stud holes. I'm just trying to put it all together.

For the $10 it cost to re-drill, it was worth the money. This way the rotors should fit nice and tight. Oh and i love these things, i had to do a semi-quick stop and it scared me how quick the car stopped.

Now I see, the $160 included the price of the rotors plus re-drilling.

Nope. I've never had this problem, nor have I ever read about anyone having this problem. Considering I've sold over 20-25 sets of these.
