anyone thought of swapping rack and pinion
after reading how many people(240sx,civics,rx7) swap rack and pinions units or have anyone thought doing this to a max
they do this in order to have a tighter steering for drift, circuits etc.. specially on 240sx they have a better mounting bushings(pic, very similar to ours can't tell) and better steering column links(small coupling disk)

Hmmm... The only thing I can think of swapping for our cars, is a 97 - 99 rack if you have a 95 - 96. The 97-99 steering feels much more sporty than the 95-96 racks. But you having a 97, you already have it.

Is the 97-99 steering really a lot tighter than the 95-96? I know that one of my pet peeves about my 1995 maxima is that the steering is so "over-assisted" that it takes some of the sport out of driving.
(In case you were wondering, my other pet peeve is that the rear seats don't fold down. Not brave enough to do the conversion that some have done to change this! Otherwise I love the car.)

Have you personally driven both and noticed a BIG difference? If the difference is large, I would definitely start searching for a 1999 stearing column because that would be very worthy "mod" (assuming it was a direct fit into my car). Good steering feel is a HUGE thing. Something that BMW seems to get, but Nissan sometimes forgets about (at least in my 1995 maxima they forgot about this)...

Maximus_PR - That is not your search. It is the one I found.

Either Nissan changes the power steering boost in 99 or the rack itself is totally different. Either way, they got it right in 99.
