Another Short Shifter thread (B&M)

Yes another one. Well my car now has about 107,200 miles for a 99 so i was thinking it maybe a good time to flush the tranny and get some new gear oil in there. after doing some reading in the fluids and lubricants forums i have come to the conclusion that i should get Redline MT90 which i have found online for about $8 a bottle. i was then thinking that i should get a short shifter and have come to the conclusion that the B&M shifter is the way to go my question is.
will adding a short shifter have any adverse effect on my car, i.e drivability and tranny life. Also what exactly is the reason for installing a short shifter? does it improve quatermile times (quicker shifting). in any event i will be greatful for any information from anyone who has a short shifter and if you could refer me to a online retailer who has the shifter reasonably priced. Southwestautoworks no sells them for $145 shipped.

short shifter is what it is shorter shifts.it helps in the 1/4 mile cause you dont have to take so long to shift from one gear to the next.no adverse affect just like having the old shifter installed.i have b&m and love the shifter are really short and great at the track i think. i paid i 140 for mine. southwest is about the cheapest to find.

thanks for the info i think i will just order it from jegs since i can get both the shifter and the gear lube there so i can save on shipping. is this the sort of install i can do myself or am i going to need to see a mechanic.
Also has anyone noticed better 1/4 mile times after short shifter install?

its a fairly easy install...you can do it without taking off the cat its just kinda hard to work behind it, but id try it with it in there, you can slide the heat sheild out from behind to gain access.

Get the shifter! You won't feel like you're elbowing the backseat passengers anymore while shifting.
