Security System Woes

Well, my keyless entry and security system met an untimely demise when i tried to do the alarm beep mod. My keyless entry doesn't work anymore, the dealership tested the remotes which somehow both of them went bad as soon as i got to the dealership today. They said it might be a BCM problem as well, which would cost $800 to replace. I have a couple of questions though...

1. Should I just get a new remote from them or off of ebay and try to reprogram it myself to see if it works?
2. Can you take any BCM from a 4th gen and transplant it to another car and program remotes gotten elsewhere?
3. Would removing the BCM affect any components in my car if i didn't put one back in?

If anyone can help me with this i would be very greatful, i am a bit concerned that i do not have a security system keeping my car safe any more and also the lack of convenience with the keyless entry.

I would go with an aftermarket alarm that locks your doors for you.

i would love to go aftermarket, but money is an issue which is why if it would work i would get a BCM out of a junker car and try that. Also, i just tried the programming procedure as described in the FAQ and i could not get my hazards to blink after i inserted and took out the key more than 6 times in 10 seconds...is this a sign that the BCM is fried?

well, after resetting my computer, my spare remote works to lock the doors and unlock them...my main remote is still dead, and my lights still don't flash. Is the BCM tied into the PCM?
