macco's paint
That is true Maco sux. They are exaclty what you pay for. SO you pay them very little you get very little back. Be careful and choose wisely when it comes to a body shop for painting. Find one that is well known and reputiable.

It's not the paint thats not good, it's the workmanship.
Improper preperation of the surface - they just paint right over anything.
Moldings are taped, not removed - that leaves a paint edge which peals easily.
It looks OK when you pick it up, closer examination reveals the cheap job and a year later you've got problems. Thats why they don't offer lifetime warranties like my shop does. I offer 5 year/nation wide and lifetime to the original owner on the finish.

I had my 3rd Gen painted at macco Black. It looked pretty good for the first month until it started fading but I sold it before it looked to bad. Basically don't go to Macco unless you plan on selling it.

Yeah macco isn't a good place to go. I had a Jeep and was selling it to by my Max and I had it painted there it looked good but was overspray city on the undercarriage. I prepped the whole thing myself so all they had to do was primer and paint so that may have helped a little. But it is what you pay for. I would just save for a good paint job.
from what i understand, they are cheap because they only apply like 1-2 coatings over the paint instead of like 7 coatings, which would make it a good paint job.
i have heard maaco only lasts about a year and the clear coat starts fadding really bad. save up and get a real paint job, more worth it.

Yeah basically my first car was a maaco job and after like 2-3 years that thing had no clear coat and basically was peeling all around all of the edges. This was on a 1985 olds where there is a lot of moldings etc that without being taken off led to a ton of chipping and peeling from the edges.
Most 1 a day paint shops use horrible materials & do not use the proper grit sandpapers to achieve a quality finish. usually they just scuff the surface with 320grit & call it a day.
Usually these cheap paint jobs are (single stage). This means that no clear coat is applied. If you do opt for the upgraded 2 stage paint then you will get a clear coat. However since the materials maaco uses are junk (not Dupont, not Sigens, not PPG, not Transtar, not Nason, etc) the clearcoat is going to yellow very quickly. The yellowing factor is how clear coats are rated. The slower the yellowing process the better it resist the enviroment (sun). The faster it yellows to quicker the enviroment damages the paint.

I did macco to my car and it was the worst mistake I ever did!. I had to get the car repainted with the sh*t job they did. DO NOT DO IT!. Not even to sell it. Anyone with a brain can see a Macco job from a block away. It destroys what and any resale value is left on the car. I saw a White max that was painted by Macco with a for sell sign in the window. The job was horrible and if I was in the market for another max I would have passed on it even if it was in mint condition Mechanicely. Don't do it. You might as will key, **** and sh$t on your car. I learned my lesson the $$$$ way.
