Weird noise when going over bumps...

Every once in a while, going over fairly rough roads (this is the beauty of the NE) I hear a noise coming from the right side of my car. It sounds like sand paper rubbing sand paper - not a distict metal-metal contact, although I wouldn't rule that out either. I thought it was just some loose plastic, so I duct taped some pieces I thought would be the problem (I know it's ghetto-rigged, so what?) and nothing changed...any thoughts?

Thanks
Lou

Sounds like the tire is rubbing against something, check all the plastic covers in the wheel wells for scuff marks

Front swaybar bushings should be checked.

it might be an exhaust hanger, clamp, bracket...whatever you wanna call it. I had the same thing happen 2 days ago. My bracket broke right under the right passenger side. Have a look at it.
